Tragic Loss: Alabama High School Quarterback Dies from Game-Related Brain Injury

 

A high school football star has passed away after suffering a brain injury during a game on Friday night, as confirmed by his school and family.

Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old quarterback for John T. Morgan Academy, a private school in Selma, Alabama, was injured during a tackle in the third quarter while playing against Southern Academy.

His mother, Arsella Slagel Tellier, shared in a Facebook post on Saturday: "Anyone who knew Caden experienced his kindness, generosity, and love. True to his nature, he is giving of himself one last time."

"Lives were touched by how he lived, and now, through his passing, lives will be saved," she added.

The exact details of the incident leading up to and during the tackle remain unclear. A GoFundMe page set up to cover funeral expenses, which has already raised $75,000 of its $100,000 goal, stated that Tellier died from a "traumatic brain injury." The page also notes that Tellier was an organ donor.

Dr. Bryan Oliver, headmaster of Morgan Academy, expressed in a statement to NBC affiliate WSFA of Montgomery, "There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family." Morgan Academy has around 350 students.
