Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a shocking, calculated attack near Midtown Manhattan’s Hilton Hotel on Wednesday morning. While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, investigators are exploring potential connections to threats against UnitedHealthcare executives. Thompson’s widow, Paulette, confirmed her husband had mentioned receiving threats but did not know specific details. She described the attack as “senseless” and said her family is devastated by the loss.
UnitedHealth Group issued a statement expressing shock and sadness, praising Thompson as a respected leader and colleague. Thompson, 50, had been with the company since 2004 and became UnitedHealthcare’s CEO in 2021.
