There are many word games online, but I still play the New York Times' Wordle
every day. It's not just a familiar game; it's also a great warm-up for other puzzles like Connections and Strands. I usually solve the Wordle puzzle within five tries, but sometimes I get stuck and worry about losing my streak. If you ever find yourself stumped, you can check CNET’s homepage for the answers to Wordle, Connections, and Strands.
Here’s today’s answer for Connections, and here’s the one for Strands.
We’ve also ranked all the letters in the alphabet by popularity, which might help you choose the best starting words.

Everyday Wordle Tips
I’ve written a lot about Wordle, from covering its 1,000th word to creating lists of the best starter words. I've also shared tips, strategies, and even some thoughts on controversial word changes. If you’re considering trying a different approach, you might find one of those tips helpful.
Still looking for a good starter word? Some people choose a five-letter word based on something they see around them, like "COUCH" or "CHAIR." I usually pick words that include popular letters in the English language. My go-to word is "TRAIN," though a friend of mine prefers "TRAIL." I’ve heard people use "ROATE," a financial term, but I stick to words I’m familiar with.
What is Wordle?
If you’re reading this, you probably know how to play. You get six chances to guess a five-letter word, and the game gives you feedback on whether your guessed letters are in the word and if they're in the correct position. The New York Times bought the game from its creator, Josh Wardle, for a significant amount in 2022. Wardle originally created the game for his partner and reduced the list of potential answers from 12,000 to 2,500, which became the answer database. Interestingly, his last name is a clever play on the word "word."
A Times spokesperson mentioned that the first Wordle appeared on June 19, 2021, and the paper celebrated the game’s 1,000th word on March 15. (That word was "ERUPT," as in, "Dad will erupt if the Wordle is so tough he loses his streak.")
